The Iconic Puzzle Game Didn't Win at This Gaming Ceremony — Another Award Type Could Fix That

As any significant prize-giving event approaches, you'll find a demand for the addition additional classifications to recognize overlooked contributions and satisfy the spirits of followers dedicated to specific genres.

A fellow writer has already made for a horror game category. It would be amazing. So would tabletop games, this being a passionate advocate's mission. But they will have to forgive me for pushing forward just as with other blinkered fanatics, I possess a compelling case for why my demand is the most urgent and important of all. Here's the proposal: There should be an award type for logic-based games.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Organizing artistic expressions defies precise measurement; opinions vary greatly, and it will always spark debates concluding with vague boundaries. It's understandable that cinema institutions avoid this approach. However, it represents an essential concession within the realm of video games, which are so diverse they hardly constitute one unified medium.

For the full spectrum of achievement in video games to gain proper attention, while allowing diverse titles to have a chance for representation, specific award classifications remain vital.

Existing Game Classification System

Leading game ceremonies offer these genre categories for Action, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Collectively, these six categories successfully include a lot of ground, allowing placement for most games within them.

Not so for puzzle games. There’s simply nowhere to put them. Think about these this year’s best games, all very different: structural challenges of one title, the pulse-pounding block-matching in a different title, thought-provoking social scenarios in another game. Where could they possibly go among existing types? Unfortunately, nowhere.

Recognition Challenges

There are dozens excellent brain-teasers launched regularly lacking appropriate categories at major award shows, if they accidentally match for categories like Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, or the extremely competitive Indie races.

  • A renowned logic title received no recognition for anything during that awards season
  • Another imaginative release received no nominations during that ceremony
  • Popular arranging title received no acknowledgment that year
  • Just some logic titles managed to sneak into niche award types

Importance of Logic Titles

Frequently they represent compact experiences, yet the craft behind logic titles holds tremendous importance. Iconic mobile puzzle games stand as most popular titles globally and have been for many years.

The famous puzzle experience competes with well-known building titles claiming status as most purchased experience; it also contends as greatest title ever. Puzzle games are foundational within interactive entertainment, while interacting with diverse game types.

The Solution and Justification

Puzzle games wouldn’t have this problem. One could readily select multiple candidates with fascinating, diverse, deserving games annually without trouble — perhaps, with difficulty, given the need to exclude numerous deserving experiences.

To emphasize again, these represent titles that otherwise have no home at major gaming awards. Logic title developers operate at the hard edge interactive creation, producing among most fundamental forms of the video game form. Similar to movie stunt professionals, they deserve recognition. We shouldn't delay generations.
